Meet the team
Eric grew up in Fife and later in Inverness.
He graduated in Law from the University of Dundee in 2003 and completed his Legal Traineeship with one of the largest legal firms in Tayside.
Eric relocated to the North of Scotland in December 2007. He is jointly responsible for managing Drever and Heddle's new Thurso Office. He is a specialist litigation solicitor and has considerable experience of advising businesses and individuals on the resolution of disputes. Clients appreciate his pragmatism and frankness.
With notable successes in the areas of Property, Contracts and Insolvency Eric has developed a strong reputation for litigating in these fields. However, he still enjoys advising clients on disputes arising out of most areas of the law.
Eric's work is well regarded by his peers and he has had articles published in professional journals and the national press. He is reguarly invited to speak at seminars for clients and colleagues alike. In the past he has won prizes for Advocacy.
He is married with three children and is enjoying the family's new life in the Highlands. Eric is a christian and much of his time outside work is spent in church activities including lay preaching. When he gets the opportunity he also enjoys reading and playing the piano.
Client Testimonials
"Eric is one of the most commercially minded lawyers I have come across. His insolvency knowledge is excellent and I have found him to be a good sounding board. Client service is his top priority and his speed of turnaround is impressive. Uniquely in the North, Eric has established a strong reputation as a dynamic Court Practitioner and one that I have total confidence in turning to for advice. Location is not an obstacle."
Donald McNaught, Director - Invocas Financial Business Recovery and Insolvency
"Eric has worked on a number of contentious cases on behalf of TUI UK Limited. His approach to his work is meticulous, diligent and tenacious, the latter in the best possible sense. His professionalism shines through and he has a high level of client care. I have found Eric to be a courteous and amiable at all times and I have enjoyed working with him immensely. It has been a pleasure all round and this is echoed by my team colleagues also. "
Lorraine Bridges, General Manager - Estates -TUI UK Ltd
"I am a Property Developer and commercially have to rely on robust litigation advice from time to time.
I have had dealings with Eric for a number of years. I have found him very easy and straight forward to deal with. He has the ability to pull in the reigns when I was heading off on a tangent. I have always found him to be extremely well prepared and knowledgable. He is a gentleman with great dignity and someone that you can completely trust."
John Cape, Briggate Investments
" I was a long-standing client of a firm of Dundee solicitors, when in 2006 my work was passed to Eric Baijal, a young, recently qualified solicitor.
Despite being thrown in at the "deep end" of several quite complex matters in which we were involved, Eric surprised me by the speed with which he absorbed the background material and was able to bring a fresh perspective to the cases. At consultations with Counsel, right from the start he took a full and thoughtful part in the proceedings, ensuring the greatest depth of exploration of the subject under discussion. I find Eric not only to be impressive as a solicitor, but a pleasant, comfortable person to engage with. When he moved to the Far North I was somewhat torn but with modern communications shrinking distances, I believed it was in my Company's best interests to move our business, with Eric, to Drever & Heddle. I do not regret that decision. "
